In the summer of 2018, BMW unveiled the BMW Z4 roadster of the next, third generation. The new model is built on the same platform as the Japanese coupe Toyota Supra of the fifth generation. Unlike the predecessor BMW Z4 in the E89 body, which was a coupe-cabriolet with a retractable roof, in the new generation to the Z4 returned fabric top. The refusal of a rigid folding roof is explained by two factors: firstly, the fashion for such a design has passed, and secondly, a rigid folding roof is more expensive and much heavier than a soft one. The roof of the new roadster can be raised or lowered in just 10 seconds, at a speed of no more than 50 km/h.
